For over 100 years, Kapa`a UCC has been a beacon of hope, faith, and love on Kauai—through life’s joys and challenges, from baptisms and weddings to hurricanes and pandemics.
Our foundation is simple: to follow Jesus Christ and love one another as he has loved us.
Founded in 1921 by Rev. Henry G. Wakai, our congregation began as the Japanese Christian Church and has grown into a vibrant, inclusive community. Over the years, our sanctuary and educational spaces have expanded to meet the needs of worship, learning, and outreach. In 2024, our Religious Education building was dedicated as the Tatsumi and Kathryn Hiramoto Outreach Center, reflecting its ongoing role in serving the community.
Kapa`a UCC has a proud history of forward-thinking leadership. Pastors like Mineo Katagiri, an early advocate for LGBT acceptance, and Beth Donaldson, our first female pastor and social justice champion, have helped shape the welcoming, Christ-centered congregation we are today.
Here, everyone is welcome—no matter your age, background, race, gender, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, financial situation, or where you are on your faith journey. Believer, doubter, or seeker—you belong here. Together, empowered by the Holy Spirit, we work to bring God’s love, justice, peace, and mercy into the world.
“We welcome all, with God’s Aloha!”
